Sailing from the Safe Harbor

As promised, it's time to answer the question, "What makes you qualified to do this?"

From a professional standpoint, I've been in the writing business since the early '90s. In 2007, my first book was published. Between then and today, I've had a total of 11 novels traditionally published with Abingdon Press, Barbour House, Whitaker House, and Harlequin. I've also published six novellas with Forget Me Not Romances, with more on the way. I've worked as a freelanced editor and have volunteered my time as a judge in numerous contests, such as Amazon First Novel, ACFW Genesis Awards, ACFW Carol Awards, and RWA Rita Awards.

I told you all the above just to show that I've been a writing professional long enough to know the ropes and to have relationships with industry professionals. But I have no problem admitting that I don't know everything. Publishing is a fluid, constantly changing industry. Even if I knew everything today, there'd be a whole slew of stuff I wouldn't know tomorrow..

If you're wondering why a person who's already been published has now decided to start a publishing house of her own, then I point to the above quote. Mr. Twain put it so well: "Sail away from the safe harbor...Explore. Dream. Discover." Yes, I want to write my books. But I also want to discover new voices. I want to help established authors present new ideas. I want to learn and grow. And, one day, I really want to be the question to a Jeopardy! answer. But that's a whole different subject for a whole other blog post.
